DIG IN:

The Father is Pleased
Read: Matthew 3:13-17
  • What a startling concept we find in these verses. We all know that baptism is a symbol of repentance and a visual illustration of dying in your old life and rising to newness in Christ’s righteousness. So, with this in mind, why is Jesus being baptized? Jesus was perfect, holy, righteous and was in no need of repentance
  • John the Baptist tried to prevent Him from being baptized, but Jesus said, “Allow it for now, because this is the way for us to fulfill all righteousness”(Matthew 3:15).
  • Jesus Christ was absolutely obedient in all aspects to the will of the Father. Everything He requires of us, He did before us. He was baptized to showHis identification with the Father, and we are to be baptized to show our identification with Christ.
  • God the Father confirms His perfect identification withJesus, evidenced by the Spirit descending on Him like a dove, and verbally expressing, “This is my belovedSon, with whom I am well-pleased” (Matthew 3:17).
  • It has been confirmed that Jesus is the Son of theFather. He is our perfect example in whom we are to identify ourselves. If your identification is in Christ, then you should know that the Father is well pleased.

Pruitt, Shane. Who’s Your One? 30 Day Devotional for Students. North American Mission Board.

Questions:

  • Why is it hard for us to be obedient?
  • What are some ways we can be obedient to God this week?

TOOL TIME:

Supplies:

  • Bracelets
  • Posters
  • Bibles

Division sign: I live apart from God:

  • Unfortunately, we do not experience God’s love because we ignore Him. We search everywhere for meaning and fulfillment – but not with God. We don’t trust Him and do not think that He wants the best for us. Going our own way and the selfish actions that result from it are what the Bible calls sin. Sin damages and destroys our relationship with others. Sin keeps us from living the fulfilling life that God intends for us.
  • Romans 3:23
  • Isaiah 59:2

Questions:

  • What are things that hurt relationships?
  • How do those same things hurt our relationship with God?
  • What can we do to restore our relationship with God and others?

Prayer Time:

  • Take 2 – 3 minutes to allow students to give different prayer requests and pray for the needs of the students.
  • Ask students to pray for their friends that don’t knowChrist.

Announcements:

  • Say: This is the place for the club to make any announcements for the upcoming week and or month. This is a great spot to add student leaders to your team and give responsibilities to them. It is also the place to check on the upcoming school schedule for days off or breaks (your Faculty Sponsor is a great resource for this)

PREPARE WEEK 2

Be Aware of the Enemy

START UP:

Welcome:

  • Say: Welcome to First Priority! (Be sure to welcome guests) We are so glad that you have chosen to join us today! Our focus this month is “Preparing.” Today is prepare week! Today, we want to see what God has to say about prayer. Specifically, the privilege of praying for others.

Opening Prayer:

  • Say: God, thank you for another great week that we get to be here at our First Priority club! I am thankful for those that are here today and thankful for your love for each of us! Thank you for the privilege of prayer. I pray that we would be found faithful to pray for our friends to know you. Give us the strength to speak out. In Jesus name, Amen

Be Aware of the Enemy
Read: Luke 4:1–14

  • One of the smartest marketing schemes I have ever fallen victim to happened at an amusement park. While waiting in line for two hours to ride a popular roller-coaster in 100-degree weather, I came face to face with what my heart and soul desired. Right in front of my eyes was this huge metal trough full of ice-cold bottled water. My shirt was drenched from sweat, and my mouth was dry, but these problems could all be tamed with this five-dollar bottled water.Needless to say, I gave in to the temptation and bought one of the most expensive bottled waters imaginable!
  • Jesus had been in the hot, dry and treacherous desert for 40 days. You can imagine how hungry, thirsty and exhausted He must have been. Since Jesus was extremely hungry, it was only fitting for Satan to temptHim to turn stones into bread. However, Jesus refused to give into the tempter. He knew that His obligation to please the Father was more important than pleasingHis flesh.
  • Jesus was hungry, so Satan tempted Him with food.Satan knows our weaknesses, so it only makes sense for him to tempt us with the things that we desire. If you struggle with lust, Satan probably isn’t going to lure you with gossip. If you struggle with gossiping, he is not going to waste his time tempting you with alcohol.

Pruitt, Shane. Who’s Your One? 30 Day Devotional for Students. North American Mission Board.

Questions:

  • What are some things Satan tempts teenagers with today?
  • What can we do to fight against these temptations?
  • What are some scriptures we can learn to fight against temptation? (Look up some verses)

TOOL TIME:

Let’s spend some time preparing to do our part to reach our campus for Christ.

Learning to share your story:

Sharing your story outline

  1. What was your life like before you encountered Jesus?
  2. When and where did you first encounter Jesus?
  3. When did you pray the prayer of salvation and start following Jesus?
  4. Where do you attend church? Talk about your youth group and how it has impacted your life.
  5. When were you baptized?
  6. How has your life been different since you started following Jesus?
  7. Close with what you want others to know. This is a good place to share your favorite scripture and challenge others to follow HIM.
  8. Share the Gospel message using the four.

INVITE WEEK 2

Gospel Presentation

The Four: God Loves / Sin Separates / Jesus Died / Relationship with God is life’s answer

START UP:

Welcome:

  • Say: Welcome to First Priority! (Be sure to welcome guests). We are so glad that you have chosen to join us today! Our focus this month has been centered around “Preparing”. Today is Invite Week!

Opening Prayer:

  • Say: God, thank you for another great week that we get to be here at our First Priority club! We pray for our speaker today (use their name) as they share their story. We pray that our hearts would be open to hearing how much you love each one of us. In Jesus name, Amen.

Gospel Presentation:

Good person test:

  • Today we are going to take a test to see who in the room is a good person. Raise your hand if you think you are a good person. Well, let’s see!
    • Raise your hand if you have ever told a lie?
      • What does this make you? A liar!
    • Raise your hand if you have ever stolen something?
      • What does this make you? A thief!
    • Raise your hand if you have ever cheated on a test?
      • What does this make you? A cheater!
    • Raise your hand if you have ever been angry with another person?
      • Jesus said in Matthew 5 that whoever is angry with his brother without cause is guilty of murder.
      • What does this make you? A Murderer!
  • So by our own admissions we are not even close to being good. The Bible tells us in Hebrews 9 that it is appointed unto man once to die and then face judgment. So when we stand before a holy God and he says why should I let you into my heaven, we can clearly not say because I am good. We are not good and have just proven that.
  • We would be guilty of all those things and the Bible calls them sin.
  • The problem is that there is a penalty for sin. The penalty for sin is death. (The same way the penalty for touching a hot stove is you get burned, the penalty for sin is death.)
    • Romans 3:23 says all have sinned.
    • Romans 6:23 says that the penalty for sin is death
  • That is the bad news!
  • The good news? That God loved you and I enough to pay the penalty for us.
    • John 3:16, tells us that he sent his only son to die for us, and that whoever would believe in him would not perish but have everlasting life.
  • God took your punishment for you and me, and if we place our faith and trust in him, the Bible tells us we will have life in Christ.
  • Would you put your faith in Christ today?

TOOL TIME:

  • Response card
  • Clear invitation and opportunity to respond to the gospel message
  • Invite students to come back next week to Connect week.
  • EAT PIZZA / DOUGHNUTS

Announcements:

  • This is the place for the club to make any announcements for the upcoming week and or month. This is a great spot to add student leaders to your team and give responsibilities to them. It is also the place to check on the upcoming school schedule for days off or breaks (your Faculty Sponsor is a great resource for this).

CONNECT WEEK 2

Let Your Light Shine

START UP:

Welcome:

  • Say: Welcome to First Priority! (Be sure to welcome guests) We are so glad that you have chosen to join us today! Our focus this month has been “Preparing.” Today is connect week and we are so excited to share with you the many ways to connect with God through the local church

I am also thankful for the local church. Thank you, God, that you have placed people in groups that love you and that will help each other walk faithfully. In Jesus name, Amen.

Let Your Light Shine
Read: Matthew 5:13-16

  • There are many Christians who believe that they are to separate themselves from the world completely. They feel that the more they hide themselves, the more spiritual they become. There are also many who purposely do not have any contact with the outside world. In fact, many churches have come to adopt this same mentality. They want their same small group of people in the church, and they don’t want anyone coming in who is different. Church has become a private little club to them. However, Jesus taught that we are not to separate ourselves from the world. We are to engage and influence our country and the towns we live in.
  • Jesus implored His followers to be salt and light. Light breaks darkness and attracts those who are in need of seeing. Jesus told His listeners not to hide their light in shame. We need followers of Christ who are not scared to have God shine through them so brightly that they affect the world around them.
