MONTH 3 – JESUS

CONNECT WEEK

CONNECTING STUDENTS TO THEIR LOCAL CHURCH AND THEIR COMMUNITY

Foundation Scripture

“For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that He was buried, that He was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures…” ~1 Corinthians 15:3-4

SAY: “Welcome to First Priority! The last few weeks, we have talked about who Jesus is: the God who became man, the man who is God, and our Savior. This week, we want to talk about Connecting to Christ and salvation in our lives.

Before we get started, let’s pray…”

OPENING PRAYER

READ: Romans 6:23, “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

SAY: “When you receive a gift from someone, you don’t ask them how much it cost and then pay them! That wouldn’t be a gift. The whole idea of a gift is that it is given to someone for free. God offers us SALVATION freely through Jesus Christ.

However, someone had to pay for the gift, right? Of course. The gift of Salvation cost Jesus His life. We receive it, but He paid for it. So, when we receive the gift of Salvation, let’s be thankful and grateful for all Jesus endured to pay the price for our sins.”

READ: 1 Peter 1:18-19, “For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty ‘way of life handed down to you from your ancestors, but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect.”

SAY: “So, when we receive the gift of Salvation, let’s be thankful and grateful for all Jesus did to pay the price for our sins. As we grow in our relationship with God (by praying, reading the Bible, etc.), we start to learn more of what it means to be a follower of Christ. Obedience to the Word is proof that Christ is in us and we understand that God’s ways are best.”

TALK IT OVER:

  1. Have you read the story of Jesus on the cross and his ultimate sacrifice?
  2. Are there any questions that you have about the story of salvation? Are there any parts that don’t make sense to you?
  3. If you were asked to teach or tell the salvation story, do you think you can do it? Its okay if not! That’s why it is great to lean on each other and leaders to help each other best understand the Gospel and Salvation!
  4. In what ways does knowing the Salvation story help you connect with Christ?

SAY: “Knowing the salvation story, and understanding salvation in our own lives personally, allows us to really connect with Christ and grow in our faith. But it doesn’t stop here! When we accept Christ in our lives and begin a relationship with Him, we need a place where we can continue to grow in faith. And the best place to grow in faith is at a local church and surrounding ourselves with other believers!

We hope that you have a better understanding of your need for a Savior and how we are “saved”. If you want to accept Jesus as your Savior or if you have any questions, come talk to a Student Leader or a Campus Coach.

“Here are our announcements for today…let’s pray.”

CLOSING PRAYER

Be prepared for students to have questions about salvation. It is important to have these conversations about the next steps with intentionality and we suggest you have a Club Coach to help with the conversation as well!

Don’t forget to announce the First Priority scholarship!
