Thank you for your interest in donating a vehicle to First Priority! There are three possibilities for donors to consider based on their vehicle, situation, and desire. Donors receive a tax deduction for each of these options.
1. Donor gives vehicle to First Priority to sell
If the local First Priority staff member is willing and able to sell the vehicle, the donor can sign the vehicle over to First Priority and then deduct the actual sale price of the vehicle for tax purposes.
2. Donor gives vehicle to First Priority for staff use
A donor’s local First Priority staff member may be in need of a vehicle for ministry use. This is considered an ‘in-kind’ donation. Please work through your First Priority staff member if you wish to go this route.
3. Donor sells the vehicle
Donors can sell their vehicle independently or take it to a junkyard for lower-value vehicles, then give all or a portion of the sale to First Priority. This is considered a cash donation. That donation can then be given online or via check to the area of greatest need or to the First Priority District closest to them.
